What is the best type of schooling for ALL children?

After reading some of today's readings, I found myself thinking about how our schools have been designed after the literacy practices of white, middle class americans, which obviously doesn't compliment the practices of the many other cultures in our country.
My question is this... would a democratic, "community of learners" necessarily be the best for ALL students?  Would this require a harder adjustment for any specific culture, or would it be equally difficult for all students?
Additionally, how much do you think a adult's experiences in schools affects the way they raise their child?  Is it only the way they were brought up by their parents, or does it have to do with schools?  If we improved our schools, would it change the way people raise their children as a whole?
