The Expanded Spaces for Learning article

The Gutierrez and Larson article raised some interesting points in regards to our discussions regarding practice versus theory. For instance, Gutierrez notes that merely changing curriculum is not the only answer. This means that as teachers we will also need to transform our classrooms. As much as we'd like to have a prepackaged, specific curriculum, the fact is that what will work in one situation may not work in another classroom. Perhaps that is why we have seen so few practical examples. Instead of concrete answers we must rely on the guiding theory and trust our instincts. Thus, as teachers, we need to be flexible enough to adapt our styles and our classrooms to best facilitate a variety of learning methods.
